Merseyflow saves the day ahead of Widnes success at gymnastics world championships

A talented gymnastics academy has enjoyed fantastic success at a gymnastics World Championships in the USA, but only after merseyflow has stepped in to buy them a new kit.

After making it through the gruelling qualifying rounds for the USAIGC, 37 budding gymnasts from Widnes Gymnastics Academy competed in the seven-day contest.

The team has racked up 44 medals placing 1st – 3rd and 50 medals placing 4th – 6th. With 14 of the girls competing getting the title of overall world champions in different areas of gymnastics.

Widnes Gymnastics Academy was one of merseyflow’s five Team Spirit competition winners in 2022, which meant they would get the funds needed to buy new kit ahead of competing in the USAIGC World Championships.

The academy was all set to go after weeks of fundraising but ran into issues when their new kit, paid for by merseyflow, didn’t arrive as planned.

Merseyflow heard about the problem and stepped in in to buy them another new kit before they were due to head off to compete.

The USAIGC (United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs) World Championships, which is attended by thousands of gymnasts from across the world, took place in Orlando, Florida, during the last week of June.

Vikki Wood, Head Coach of Widnes Gymnastics Academy, said: “We would all like to give a huge thank you to merseyflow for stepping in and paying for our new kits. The girls have worked so hard during their long training sessions, and we are so proud that they have had the opportunity to compete at the world championships.”

She also added: “The girls who competed are aged from just 6 years old up to 13 years old. They have gone above and beyond any of our expectations, competing against teams from USA, South Africa and Canada and each time hitting the top marks. We are unbelievably proud of them.”

Helen Williams, Marketing Manager at merseyflow, said: “Our local community is very important to us and when we learned that the team’s kit didn’t arrive as planned so close to the competition, we knew we had to try and find a way to help them as they were one of our Team Spirit winners from last year. We would like to congratulate them on their amazing results at the competition.”
