How it works

How it works 2017-03-16T17:00:57+00:00

It’s really easy

Follow our seven-step guide below and we’ll be adding more detail and instructions to help walk you through the online registration process nearer the time.

Step 1 – sign up for our e-newsletter at the right hand side of this page to make sure you get the latest information and don’t miss the start of the registration this summer.

Step 2 – have a look at the information on this website to see what the best option will be for you. There are different options for Halton residents, Blue Badge holders and people who live outside Halton to save money on the standard toll.

Step 3 – Set up the right merseyflow account for you by following the instructions on this website when registration opens later this year

You’ll need to pay a fee – either £5 or £10 depending on the type of account – and you if you are applying for a Halton resident account or a Blue Badge holder account we’ll ask you for some proof of identification which we’ll check before we send out your merseyflow sticker.

If you’ve opened up a pre-pay account please make sure you have enough money in your merseyflow account so that we can make sure you never get a penalty charge.

We’ll be publishing more information to help everyone through the process of setting up their accounts later in the year.

If you don’t want to register you will be able to drive over both bridges without registering but by doing this you will have to pay the full unregistered toll cost for each journey you make. You can only access discounts by registering with merseyflow.

Step 4 – Once you’ve successfully registered and we’ve sent you a special merseyflow car sticker in the post, stick it on to the centre of your windscreen behind your mirror

Step 5 – You’re ready to go – you can drive over the new bridge when it opens in autumn 2017.

When the new bridge opens the Silver Jubilee Bridge will shut for up to 12 months for refurbishment before it re-opens as a toll bridge.  Your registration and sticker will work on either bridge.

There are no toll booths – so there’ll be no need to stop – making journeys across the river quicker, easier and more reliable.

Step 6 – If you are an eligible Halton resident or blue badge holder who has successfully registered with merseyflow, then the tolling gantries on the Mersey Gateway Bridge or the Silver Jubilee Bridge will recognise your vehicle and you won’t be charged a penny after you’ve paid your initial £5 or £10 fee.

If you have paid your £5 registration fee and set up a merseyflow sticker account, then the tolling gantries will recognise your vehicle and deduct the appropriate amount of money from your merseyflow account, and you will save 10% on the cost of each journey.

If you haven’t set up a merseyflow account, you’ll have to pay the unregistered toll rate. You will need to remember to pay before midnight the day after you travel or you will be fined up to £60.

Step 7 – If you’re registered with us you will be able to log on and check your account whenever you like. You’ll be able to change most things through the website but our customer service teams will be available to help you with anything you need.

Registration will open in summer 2017. To sign up to be alerted when registration opens please click here.
